The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine will meet at an extraordinary assembly to discuss the possibility of a boycott of the Summer Olympics in Paris. This was announced by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, the Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in 2020, Jean Beleniuk.
The Extraordinary General Assembly will meet on February 3, a boycott is possible if Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to return to international competitions, Mr. Beleniuk explained. “Obviously, everything is going to the fact that they will be returned … so this event will have serious consequences,” the Ukrainian deputy writes.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
On January 27, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky accused the leadership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of hypocrisy for his intention to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete. Earlier, the IOC was going to allow Russians to participate in international competitions in a neutral status and in the absence of “active support” for the military operation.
