The deceased British Queen Elizabeth II was a distant relative of the now living representatives of the Romanov dynasty. We tried to find out if the participation of the head of the Russian Imperial House in the upcoming mourning events is planned.

Remember what happened when Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, the wife of Queen Elizabeth, was buried not so long ago: there, in general, the number of those present was reduced to a minimum and only the closest relatives were invited to the ceremony. Therefore, it is difficult to say anything definite at the moment.

However, even if a representative of the Russian Imperial House cannot physically attend the funeral, the Grand Duchess will still take part in it prayerfully. Maria Vladimirovna grieves and prays that the Lord would be merciful to the soul of the deceased queen. For the House of Romanovs, the death of Elizabeth II is a great loss, despite the fact that on a number of issues the heads of the two dynasties had different points of view on the current situation in the world.

– Taking into account the fact that Queen Elizabeth, on the line of her father, King George V, was a relative of the Romanovs, in particular Emperor Nicholas II, is it possible to assume, at least purely theoretically, that under some combination of circumstances she would have been buried in the tomb of the Romanovs in Petropavlovsk Petersburg Cathedral?

– Not. Under no circumstances would this be possible. There is no such practice.

Although all European dynasties are related, nevertheless their family tombs are intended for the burial of direct members of each royal or imperial family. Even some relatives who were close, but did not belong to the royal, imperial house, are buried in other places. Moreover, the option with a member of a foreign dynasty is impossible.

Another situation is with Charles III, who has now ascended the English throne. Each member of this or that dynasty theoretically has a place in the succession to the throne of many other countries. For example, Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna and Grand Duke George Mikhailovich, as descendants of Queen Victoria, occupy certain places in the chain of heirs to the British throne. In the same way, English princes, under certain conditions, can claim to become the head of the Russian Imperial House.

The current King of Great Britain, who until yesterday was Prince Charles, has his place in the Russian line of succession. In theory, he can become the head of the Russian Imperial House, but in order for the turn to reach him, firstly, all living representatives of the Russian Imperial House must die, and secondly, a significant part of the representatives of other European dynasties (who “stand ahead” in this queues). In addition, he must abdicate his British throne, convert to Orthodoxy … You yourself understand that these circumstances make such a development of events absolutely fantastic.

But if, nevertheless, we assume that this happened, and the former Prince Charles, and now the King of Great Britain Charles III, having agreed to all the above conditions, ended up at the head of the Russian Imperial House, then, of course, in the future he would have a formal right after his death rest in the tomb of the Romanovs.
