The Moscow City Court sentenced a member of the elite special forces of the FSB for a series of murders

A Moscow City Court on Monday sentenced Boris Chukaev, a former special forces officer of the FSB’s elite special unit Alfa, who was accused of a series of murders. Two of his accomplices did not live to see the trial: they died in a pre-trial detention center with an interval of several weeks.
As MK previously reported, Chukaev, another retired Alfa member Alexander Chukanov and an employee of Avuar Delta Andrey Voskresensky were detained at the end of 2019. Their arrest was staged with great pomp and carefully prepared. There were reasons for this: for example, Voskresensky’s apartment was equipped with powerful perimeter tracking equipment. And in the country house of Chukaev in Novogorsk there was an impressive guard. In addition, the retiree did not part with the Glock pistol, presented to him by the President of Abkhazia. But the arrest went smoothly. During a search at the dacha of one of the detainees in the Vladimir region, a grenade launcher, F-1 grenades, TNT sticks and fake police certificates, as well as fake license plates were seized.
Three crimes in which the company was accused were committed after the dismissal of Chukaev and Chukanov from the authorities. All criminal acts were in one way or another connected with the Metropol financial group. Chukanov, after retiring, got a job in the personal security of Aidar Kotyuzhansky, the chairman of a bank with that name. However, soon the bodyguard quarreled with the boss and decided to kill him, for which he attracted his friends. In January 2001, when Kotyuzhansky approached his BMW parked near the CSKA sports complex, a used “six” exploded nearby. But the financier was lucky: he and the guard received only burns.
Then the attackers created their own investment company, calling it the same – “Metropol”. In fact, it was an office for fooling businessmen: they were offered to make an investment with further super profits, although in fact the businessmen would not have received any profits. The owner of the Lyubertsy market, Ilya Dvorkin, made a fatal mistake. He allocated $ 5 million for the development of the Metropol, and when he realized that it was not worth waiting for profit, he tried to return his money. In November 2008, Dvorkin arrived at the office of Chukaev and Chukanov on Donskaya Street, from where he never left. His body could not be found.
In May 2012, according to investigators, a prominent official, head of the platinum department of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Almazyuvelirexport, Alexander Vasiliev, became a victim of the killers. This office also held accounts in the Metropol bank, and therefore, the criminals, apparently, could receive information about the withdrawal of large sums from deposits. When Vasiliev took $1.5 million from the bank and left the Ostozhenka office to go to a business meeting, he was kidnapped and killed. Vasiliev’s body was also not found.
The investigation of the case was accompanied by numerous scandals. In particular, the wife of one of the accused, Andrei Voskresensky, was suspected of bribing a witness in order to alleviate the plight of her husband. These charges were later dropped. In addition, the operatives, having received information about the possible burial place of Vasiliev’s body, actually spoiled the site of Chukaev’s neighbor – excavations were so actively (and unsuccessfully) carried out there.
But the most important surprise was the sudden death of two accused. Chukanov and Voskresensky died unexpectedly in a pre-trial detention center, and almost simultaneously – in August last year. One died from kidney failure, which was provoked by the coronavirus, the other from a heart attack.
As a result, only Chukaev ended up in the dock. The Moscow City Court sentenced him to 18 years in prison with a subsequent restriction of freedom for 2 years. The convict will pay 8 million rubles to the victims.
