The Moscow City Court upheld the decision of the Basmanny Court to annul the media license of the printed version of Novaya Gazeta, rejecting the appeal of the editorial board, Novaya Gazeta Europe reports. Formerly Moscow City Court delivered a similar decision in relation to the New Story-newspaper.
The Basmanny Court decided to cancel the licenses of the printed version “Novaya Gazeta” And “New story-newspaper” in September 2022. Roskomnadzor called the reason for revoking Novaya Gazeta’s license “failure to submit the editorial charter within the time limits established by the media law.” The editors made changes to the charter in 2006.
Roskomnadzor appealed to the court in the case of revoking the license of Novaya rasskaz-gazeta, because, according to the department, it had not been published for more than a year. The website of Novaya Gazeta was also stripped of its license after two warnings from Roskomnadzor about labeling “foreign agents”.
