“Gazeta.Ru” said that the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has developed a terms of reference for the development of proposals for the use of geolocation in contactless fares. The agency expects to use geolocation to charge fares in urban public transport, using, among other things, mobile devices of passengers.

“In the Russian Federation, there is a need to analyze and structure the possibilities of using geolocation in the implementation of contactless fare payment,” the terms of reference say.

The system, proposals for which must be prepared, must fix the parameters of the flight, indicate the cost of the trip at flat and zonal fares. In addition, it should provide the ability to control the payment of travel by passengers.

“The location of the place of embarkation and disembarkation of a passenger can be determined directly by the location of his mobile device,” the authors of the terms of reference suggest a decision to the performers.

How widely the Ministry of Transport plans to apply zonal tariffs when paying for urban transport is not specified.
