The Ministry of Internal Affairs found no violations in the words of RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan, who earlier stated that “nothing will happen on Earth from a thermonuclear explosion over Siberia.” This was reported by Moscow City Duma deputy Evgeny Stupin (recognized as a foreign agent), whose assistant sent a complaint to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs found no violations in the words of state propagandist Margarita Simonyan, who proposed exploding a nuclear bomb over Siberia for the sake of victory in the Northern Military District,” the deputy wrote in his Telegram channel.
On October 3, Margarita Simonyan in the Ch.T.D program said: “And so a man, he is a radio electronics engineer, tells me: you know, we knew this back in Soviet times, that if we produce it hundreds of kilometers on our own territory, where- something over Siberia, a thermonuclear explosion, for example, a nuclear explosion, then nothing will happen on Earth. It’s not that bad.”
According to the presenter, after such an explosion there will be no nuclear winter or radiation, but all radio electronics will fail. “We will go back to something like 1993 - with wired telephones. We lived wonderfully. Well, really, I’ll even be happy! At least I won’t have to explain why everyone has gadgets and they don’t. This option remains. And this is the most humane thing,” she said.
Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on Ms. Simonyan’s words. He noticed, that the presenter is not in public service, “so her words do not always reflect the official position.” Mayor of Novosibirsk Anatoly Lokot, a physicist by training, commenting on the words of the presenter, statedthat the consequences of such an explosion “may affect not even hundreds of years, but millennia.”
On October 4, Evgeny Stupin’s assistant Nikolai Korolev wrote an appeal to the Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs with a request to check the words of Margarita Simonyan. After this, Mrs. Simonyan wrote that she also knows how to write statements, but “God” does not order her to do so. That evening she reportedthat she wrote a statement to the Ministry of Internal Affairs against Nikolai Korolev under the article “slander”. According to her, she “did not and could not offer any such heresy.” Then the Moscow City Duma deputy Evgeniy Stupin himself wrote an appeal to the Investigative Committee with a request to initiate a case against Margarita Simonyan.
