Alcohol consumption rates in Russia have been declining over the past five to ten years, but now the rate of decline has stopped. This was announced by Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko. According to him, in a number of regions the Ministry of Health is observing “quite high numbers” of alcohol consumption.

“If you look at the trend over five to ten years, alcohol consumption is declining, but now the rate of decline has stopped,” said Mikhail Murashko at the World Youth Festival.

According to the study FinExpertiza, retail sales of strong alcohol (above 25 degrees) have reached their highest level in the last seven years (since 2017). In 2023, sales of strong alcohol increased by 3.6%, to a record 7.2 liters per capita. Residents of the Far East and North-West of Russia consume the most alcohol.
