The study found that prolonged exposure to high temperatures increases the risk of acute ischemic stroke. This was reported in the journal JAMA Network Open.

The study analyzed data from 82 thousand patients from China who experienced acute ischemic stroke from 2019 to 2021. The scientists took into account factors such as age, bad habits, gender, place of residence and health status of the patients.

The results showed that the risk of stroke increased with increasing temperature, and the longer the exposure lasted, the higher the risk of stroke. Residents of northern regions, men and patients with dyslipidemia or atrial fibrillation were especially vulnerable.

The researchers noted that it is especially important for older people to protect themselves from exposure to high temperatures.
