Rules for assessing knowledge for foreigners applying for Russian citizenship was developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. They are similar to the requirements for those wishing to obtain a residence permit, labor patent or temporary residence right in Russia.

These skills must also be demonstrated by the future citizen.
As for historical knowledge, applicants for citizenship are required to demonstrate familiarity with the main facts and events of Russian history – to name the names of outstanding figures of the Russian Empire, the USSR and the Russian Federation in the field of science and culture, as well as the main national, cultural and religious traditions of Russian society.
In addition, they are required to demonstrate familiarity with the basics of the constitutional system of Russia, labor, civil and family law, the rules of entry and exit into and from our country, permanent residence, deadlines for registration with migration authorities, and the list of documents required for legal residence. Those applying for a residence permit should also know this. And future citizens will also need to know under what conditions citizenship is granted and in what cases it can be lost.
