The mayor of Omsk explained the refusal of the school director to install a memorial plaque to the SVO participant

The mayor of Omsk, Sergei Shelest, held a meeting on the issue of installing a memorial plaque to the participant in the military operation, Alexei Yamshchikov, on the facade of school No. 87, the director of which had previously refused to do so. Mr. Shelest noted that only the toponymic commission of Omsk can make such decisions. Following the meeting, the mayor of the city instructed the head of the Leninsky administrative district, where the school is located, to “make sure that everything is done as expected.”

“I will say right away: not a single school director, nor any other head of any of our institutions makes decisions about placing memorial plaques on the buildings entrusted to them. Since the beginning of the SVO, this commission has not made a single negative decision regarding perpetuating the memory of our fallen guys,” Mr. Shelest wrote in Telegram. He indicated that for help in collecting documents to submit to the commission, the initiators of the installation of memorials can contact district administrations, deputies of the Omsk city council, or him personally.

As a result of the discussions, the mayor of Omsk instructed to help the authors of the initiative in collecting documents for installing a memorial plaque on the facade of the school where Alexei Yamshchikov, who died during the hostilities, studied. “We will definitely pay tribute to the memory of this guy, as well as other Omsk residents who died for the future of our country, our children and grandchildren,” he noted.

On December 12, two participants in the fighting in Ukraine published a post on the Telegram channel in which they stated that they had collected all the necessary documents to install a memorial plaque on the wall of the school, but the director refused to do so. After this, the school director wrote a police report against them.
