The matchmaker explained the double increase in divorces in the Caucasus

According to Rosstat data for 2022, the number of divorces in Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia has almost doubled. Also in these republics, at the end of the year, a decrease in the number of marriages is recorded. Matchmaker Galina Karaseva told the radio station “Moscow Speaks” about the reasons that influenced the statistics.
The European way of life began to influence the North Caucasus, which affects the traditions of the local population, and marked the main reason for the matchmaker. “Not Eastern, but European culture began to penetrate into the Caucasus,” Karaseva noted. “And they’re starting to take divorce more easily.” In addition, in her opinion, 2020 “also came back when there was covid.” In many unions, relations deteriorated after quarantine.
Meanwhile, the lowest divorce rate was recorded in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In 2022, the number of marriages in the two capitals almost doubled the number of divorces.
Karaseva explained that this is due to the high prosperity of the inhabitants of megacities, which, in her opinion, has a positive effect on the preservation of the marriage. In large cities, people do not seek to formalize relationships. “Therefore, their breakups are not included in the statistics,” she noted another factor affecting the performance.
