The level of implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in Russia is three times less than the world. This was told by the director of the direction “Digital transformation of industries” ANO “Digital Economy” Alexei Sidoryuk at the Agro-industrial conference “Agro Day”organized by Kommersant Publishing House.
According to the study “Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture” cited by Mr. Sidoruk, in 2021, 34% of respondents planned to implement AI technologies, and only 16% had already used them. In the rest of the world, AI began to dominate in 2020 (52% of users). According to Mr. Sidoryuk, more than half of business owners in Russia are not aware of effective AI solutions and their effects.
“Our science is quite far behind compared to China and the United States, but we are quite successfully implementing solutions that already exist on the basis of open source,” the expert said. “But for some reason, with the availability of these technologies, unmanned drones, computer vision, and so on, it’s all quite difficult to implement. Often, the owners of enterprises are under-communicated about the effects of the introduction of AI, about the availability of Russian solutions. All this is in the gray zone and is transmitted by word of mouth.”
According to a study that analyzed 32 existing domestic solutions, AI is able to increase livestock production by 3%, increase crop yields by 4% and increase the amount of harvested products by 5%. Now AI in Russian agriculture is being implemented mainly by large companies, and the most common scenario is related to monitoring farmland and growing crops using computer vision, as well as using intelligent decision-making systems in management.
