Twitter creator Jack Dorsey released the AppStore has a new BlueSky app, which is a Twitter-like microblogging service. At the moment, you can use the application only by invitation and only on iOS, now the number of BlueSky users does not exceed 2 thousand people.
The social network works on the open standard Authenticated Transfer Protocol (AT), which assumes a decentralized social network. Jack Dorsey was inspired by the idea of such a project after Twitter banned the account of former US President Donald Trump. According to Dorsey, BlueSky will reduce the possibility of abuse of power and regulation by similar centralized platforms that can decide who has a say and who does not.
BlueSky began as a side project of Twitter and received funding from it, but is not dependent on it in any way. The application itself looks almost identical to Twitter – it is possible to post short messages up to 256 characters, post photos. You can follow other users and see their updates. Also, publications and publications with answers go separately from each other. At the moment, there are already alternatives to Twitter with the AT protocol, such as the Mastodon application.
