The height of the snowdrifts in Moscow in some places exceeded 40 cm, said Evgeny Tishkovets, leading specialist at the Phobos weather center. This is a record figure in the entire history of measurements.

“A record 40 cm of snowdrifts have grown in Moscow. At the capital’s base weather station VDNKh, the height of snow cover by the morning of December 4 is 36 cm, in Tushino – 35 cm, Moscow State University – 41 cm, in the city center – on Balchug – 43 cm,” wrote in Telegram channel Evgeny Tishkovets.

The previous record for the height of snowdrifts was set in 1952 and 2004: then this figure reached 30 cm. “Such snow cover is typical for February, when snowdrifts reach their maximum height,” added the Phobos expert.

About 30% of the monthly precipitation fell in Moscow in one day. Due to snowfall this morning, according to the Yandex Schedules online board, at Moscow airports Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo were About 60 flights were delayed or cancelled. The Hydrometeorological Center announced a yellow level of weather danger in Moscow and the Moscow region. It will be valid until 12:00 on December 5.
