The snowfall that covered Moscow in one day could have broken the record in the entire history of observations. Leading expert of the Phobos weather center Evgeny Tishkovets spoke about this on Telegram.
According to the expert, 25-30 percent of the monthly rainfall was recorded in the city per day. “In Moscow, at the VDNKh base weather station, 13 millimeters of precipitation fell over the past 24 hours, or 25 percent of the monthly precipitation norm…”, the forecaster shared the data.
Tishkovets clarified that under ideal conditions, a millimeter of precipitation converted to water is equal to about a centimeter of snow. In this connection, the expert believes that, most likely, the height of the snowdrifts in the capital has reached unprecedented levels. He added that if on December 3 in the area of the VDNKh weather station the snow height was 19 centimeters, then by the morning of December 4 it was about 30 centimeters, which is more than four times higher than the climate norm at the beginning of winter (seven centimeters).
In conclusion, the specialist noted that such snow cover was recorded for the first time and that more accurate information about the weather would appear after 10 a.m.
