According to the governor of the region Vasily Golubev, dry vegetation on agricultural land caught fire yesterday in the Ust-Donetsk region due to the overlap of power lines, then the fire spread to the forest. “A state of emergency has been declared. 139 people were evacuated from the village of Verkhnekundryuchenskaya and the Cherni farm to temporary accommodation centers. 53 people who suffered from smoke applied for medical help,” the head of the region wrote in his Telegram channel.

The fire is extinguished by 527 people and 121 pieces of equipment,” the department said. Two Il-76 and Be-200 aircraft, as well as two Mi-8 helicopters are involved in extinguishing the fire. Aviation has already dropped 316 tons of water onto the burning area, the press service said.

The fire completely destroyed seven residential buildings in which 17 people lived, including four children, the governor said.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, emergency fire danger in 36 municipalities of the Rostov region will continue on August 16 and 17. In another nine municipalities, a high fire risk is predicted.
