The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine decided to place Yuri Zbitnev, director of the Lviv Arsenal, under house arrest, who is involved in a case of theft during the purchase of mortar shells.
The court allowed Zbitnev to leave the house only from 08:00 to 12:00, established the mandatory use of an electronic bracelet, and he must also surrender his foreign passport. Previously, the official was interrogated using a polygraph.
On January 28, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced charges against an employee of the Ministry of Defense and other suspects for attempting to steal funds in the amount of 1.5 billion hryvnia (almost $40 million) during the purchase of mortar shells. According to the investigation, in August 2022, a contract was signed for the supply of a wholesale batch of shells with the supplier Lviv Arsenal, and the entire amount was transferred to the company’s accounts. However, the delivery of shells did not take place. Part of the funds was transferred to the account of a foreign commercial entity responsible for the supply of ammunition, while the remaining funds remained in the accounts of the Ukrainian company. According to the department, one of the suspects was detained while trying to leave the country and is in custody.
