On July 7, celebrated by Orthodox all over the world as the Nativity of John the Baptist, Kyiv was covered with heavy rain. The downpour became a natural obstacle for technicians hired by the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “Kiev-Pechersk Lavra” with grinders and electric drills, who were supposed to open and then seal the monastery buildings.

It is not customary for sane people to fulfill orders for sawing metal locks out of metal doors in such weather: it is not even an hour, it “shorts” – and the defenders of the monastery will not be the first victims of Vladimir Zelensky’s anti-church policy.

On Saturday and Sunday, the authorities will not seal the remaining three (out of the five blacklisted) Lavra buildings. Because a lot of Kyivans will come to the Lavra on weekends.

At the moment, according to the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich), three buildings of the Lavra have been sealed: 69, 70 and 71. At the same time, the residence of the Primate of the UOC Onufry is located in the 70th building. The building is now surrounded on all sides by armed representatives of law enforcement agencies, so the primate’s access there is now impossible.

The most terrible thing, continues Metropolitan Anthony, is that since yesterday morning the state of Ukraine began to fight not with tanks and missiles, but with absolutely unarmed ordinary citizens-compatriots – “with innocent believers, with elderly people and women whose husbands and sons are at the front dying for our country…”

The struggle against the canonical UOC, performed by Ukrainian patriots, is acquiring not only ugly, but also criminally punishable forms.

Recently, the Khmelnitsky diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church announced the appearance on the fence of the Church of the Nativity of Christ in the city of Krasilov of an appeal to “eliminate Moscow priests.” The rector of the church, Archpriest Pyotr Koval, wrote a statement to the National Police Department of Ukraine about protecting his rights, opening criminal proceedings and stopping self-will on religious grounds.

The instigators in this inter-confessional confrontation, according to Archpriest Peter, are representatives of the local authorities. They allegedly play along with other applicants for the building of the Church of the Nativity of Christ and the area occupied by it. “Yes, in the future, perhaps, you will be able to take away both. But it is not within your competence to take away our Orthodox faith and love for Christ the Savior!” – said the priest in his video message.

Approximately the same can be said by the priests and monks evicted from the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, tirelessly ennobling the part of the territory of the reserve given to them on a long-term lease for more than three and a half decades. As MK reported yesterday, Belarus is ready to shelter them.

The vicar of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel calls on the priestly and monastic rank not to indulge the lawlessness that is happening in Kyiv, but to firmly defend their rights. The national police and the SBU have made it a rule to turn a blind eye to the atrocities of young nationalists, who arrange disgusting performances on the territory of the monastery, and then climb into the gardens cultivated by monks in order to profit from other people’s fruits. These thugs humiliate with impunity the parishioners of the Lavra, its clergy, monks and students of educational institutions of the UOC.

“Representatives of the secular authorities, who sealed three Lavra buildings on behalf of Ukraine yesterday, themselves sent the wrath of the Lord on themselves and on their families until the seventh generation,” Metropolitan Pavel stated.

An indirect confirmation of the words of the bishop and at the same time a formidable warning to President Zelensky in the Ukrainian-speaking segment of social networks was called yesterday’s sensational desperate act of an Orthodox priest from Sofia. The man waited for the Ukrainian leader’s motorcade to approach and, waving a large tribal cross, decided to anathematize Zelensky. The Bulgarian cops, who were on duty along the government highway, did not give the Orthodox oppositionist the opportunity to express what he thinks about the oppression of his Ukrainian brothers in faith. From the transcript of the not quite high-quality video recording, it is more or less clear only that the priest considers Zelensky’s policy to be “Nazi” and that the head of Ukraine is a conductor of Satanism.
