From January 19, the pilot project is being resumed, within the framework of which owners of electric vehicles can obtain the right to drive for free on toll sections of the roads M-1, M-3, M-4, M-11, M-12, the Central Ring Road, the Northern Bypass of Odintsovo, as well as a section 15–58th km of the M-11 highway. The Russian government reported this yesterday. The “pilot” does not apply to regional roads.

The experiment, we recall, was carried out in 2023 to further motivate citizens to buy an electric car. Owners of electric vehicles need to purchase (or rent) an Avtodora contactless transponder. Last year, about 5 thousand motorists took advantage of the benefit, said First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov. The measure contributed to a doubling of the load on charging stations and increased business interest in the development of charging infrastructure on toll highways, the Russian government reported.

Kommersant reported on the White House’s plans to extend the experiment until 2024 on January 15. The largest number of trips with a free transponder in 2023 were recorded on toll roads with the highest fares – M-11 Moscow-Solnechnogorsk and on the Odintsovo bypass. Most often, according to unofficial data, the benefit was used by owners of Tesla and other expensive foreign-made electric vehicles.
