Prices for eggs, tomatoes and pears rose the most in Russia in 2023

An analysis of Rosstat data conducted by RIA Novosti showed that in Russia last year the largest increase in prices was recorded for eggs, tomatoes and pears. The increase in prices for eggs was 61.4%, for tomatoes – 51.1%, and for pears – 48.3%. Grapes (48.2%) and bananas (46.9%) were also among the five goods with the highest rate of price growth.
Prices for garlic increased by 46.4%, for gas motor fuel – by 41.2%. While the cost of a trip to Belarus increased by 37.6%, the drug Furomesid increased in price by 34.2%. Oranges close the list of dozens of goods with the largest price increases in 2023.
According to Rosstat, a quarter of the goods whose prices were tracked rose faster than inflation in Russia, which was 7.4% last year. Among them are cabbage (29.4%), chicken (27.7%), cucumbers (18.3%), lamb (17.6%), pork (13%), fish (live – 12.5%, ice cream – 9.2%), sugar (10.8%) and rice (10.5%).
Forecasts of the Russian authorities for the current year indicate a slowdown in inflation rates: the Bank of Russia expects price growth to be 4-4.5%, and the Ministry of Economic Development – 4.5%.
