The FSB of Russia published archival documents revealing information about the mass executions by the Nazis of the civilian population of the Stalin (former name of Donetsk) region, including the city of Artemovsk, during the Great Patriotic War, and the details of which were announced at the Stalin trial of the executioners in 1947.
On April 19, 1943, when the Smersh military counterintelligence agencies were created, a decree was issued by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On the penalties for Nazi villains.”
By decree, in 1943-1949, trials took place in the country: Krasnodar, Krasnodon, Kharkov, Smolensk and others.
Declassified documents say that during the occupation of this region, the Nazis killed at least 174,000 civilians and 149,000 prisoners of war there, and took over 252,000 Soviet citizens for hard labor in Germany.
