More than 54.1 thousand hectares of forests are burning in the Sverdlovsk region, the information policy department of the region reported. As of May 6, the fire area exceeded 33 thousand hectares. 4807 people are involved in extinguishing.

According to the department, ten fires on an area of ​​more than 4,000 hectares were extinguished in the region. In total, in the Middle Urals, as of 9:00 on May 8, there are 64 fires, of which 16 were localized, TASS reports.

Due to fires in the Sverdlovsk region, the city of Asbest lost 80% of water supply sources. In three villages of the region introduced emergency mode. The situation in the region is assessed as critical, local authorities have requested federal assistance to fight fires.
