The features of the Unified State Examination and admission to universities in 2023 are named

Already on Friday, with geography, literature and chemistry, the main stage of the exam is launched. State exams will end on June 20 (computer science and ICT, the only USE on computers) – the day the admission campaign at universities officially begins. While parents are sitting with validol, and children finish learning everything that they have been through for years in three days, MK found out from experts how to stop panicking and enter a university.

It is, in principle, difficult not to pass the USE-OGE, if at least something was done during the school year, experts say. Because the passing scores are set at the very “minimum”.

Judge for yourself: in 2023, in order to pass for certification in the Russian language, you need to score 36 points out of 100. Basic mathematics – 3 points out of 5, profile mathematics 27 out of 100. That is, after last year, transfer points did not increase in Rosobrnadzor. Formally, only the Russian language was raised (last year it was 24 points).

But the scoring system is so confused, there are primary points and additional ones. Therefore, Russian has not acquired complexity, the grading system has changed slightly. The main idea is that the USE is quite capable of passing a strong C student. He can take only one additional subject, that is, only three exams. Although, of course, those graduates who set their sights on a decent university usually take four subjects: two core and two additional.

Threshold scores for admission to universities in certain subjects are higher than school ones, they are determined by the Ministry of Education and Science. But they are also small: Russian language – 40 points, profile mathematics – 39, physics – 39, English – 30 (school score 22). For some subjects, the threshold was not raised in 2023, for others (social science, history, physics, biology) it was increased slightly. Although, of course, in order to assess their chances of admission, an applicant should be guided by the average score at the university for the chosen specialty, statistics should be taken for three years.

Universities, especially prestigious ones, set their own passing scores. The figures from the ministry are just a barrier below which there is nowhere to fall. As is known from past admission campaigns, the average score of the tops, especially in IT and technical areas, has grown to the point that only Olympiads were on the lists. And even graduates with 100 points in a core subject have nothing to do there. This prompted last year to create a separate quota for Olympiads so that other applicants would immediately understand how many state-funded places have already been taken.

Another trend of the past year is the bias of state-funded places towards technical specialties, as a result of which the average score in some universities fell to a historic low of 36 or less. And the predominance of middle-aged reinsurers among the entrants. Strong graduates, whose average score is about 75-80, understood that they could not compete with 100-point students, and chose a simpler university. As a result, even Moscow universities with big names, paradoxically, could not recruit state-funded students and announced an additional enrollment. This is the first time in history that this has happened to medical schools.

It is to be hoped that this year applicants will not be so overcautious and worried when evaluating their chances of admission. This year, everyone has already got used to the cancellation of the “second wave”.

Yes, the budget for technical specialties has been increased again, the course for engineering is maintained. Medical, pedagogical universities, and chemists also received additional places. Regional universities continue to develop and are included in international rankings.

Although the number of specialties to choose from was reduced from 10 to five in each university where an application was submitted, the priority of enrollment appeared. This is convenient: if you have not entered the specialty of the first priority, the system automatically transfers you to the lists of the specialty of the second priority specialty, etc.

Consent to enrollment, with which there were many difficulties in the past, has been cancelled. Now the indicator of the applicant’s intentions is a single application indicating the specialties in priority order and providing the university with the original or a notarized copy of the certificate (or a verified form of completion of secondary education when applying through electronic services).

By the way, about electronic receipts. Parental publics are full of doubts about how to submit an application through “Apply to a university online”, a state portal or a personal account on the university website. The same goes for billing through them.

There were a lot of failures a year or two ago, when an applicant submitted documents “through a computer” and did not blow his mustache, and the university did not even know about him because of a failure. Or the site hangs at the university itself, at the most crucial moment … In general, it is still more reliable to bring documents “with your own feet”. Send by registered mail or send by courier service.

Beneficiaries are also being actively discussed. This year, three types of quotas have been approved: target, special and separate. Well, everything is clear with target targets, this is a separate list. A separate quota assumes that graduates of socially privileged categories compete for state-funded places within their own competition: orphans, disabled children, children from large families, and others. This is traditionally 10% of the budget.

A special quota is a new thing. It included: children of SVO participants, heroes of the Russian Federation, persons awarded three Orders of Courage, etc. Each university is obliged to allocate at least 10% of budget places under a special quota. Although, last year’s experience proved that no more than 2-3 thousand people across the country entered this category (and 10% of this is 60 thousand places). This year, it turns out, preferential places will be even more.

It turns out that applicants with good scores should wait, and good students should not be modest. Last year, strong nerves helped me get into eminent, even top universities in popular specialties. And this year they can be safely put in priority (by the way, experts advise to issue a statement of priority as a motivation letter to the university).

Yes, again, in technical and some other universities, closer to the end of admission, “extra” places can be poured into the lists that were not occupied due to unbalanced admissions.

Separate advice for holders of additional points for the exam – they must be certified. For example, 2-3 points for the TRP must be confirmed by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.
