The husband of the singer Diana Gurtskaya, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Pyotr Kucherenko, died suddenly on May 20 during the return of the Russian delegation, which he was a member of, home from Cuba. Petr Kucherenko went as part of a government working delegation (led by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko) to Cuba to take part in a discussion of the interaction between the two countries in various fields, including through higher education.
The visit of our officials took place on May 17-19 and was timed to coincide with the meeting of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
On May 20, the Ministry of Education and Science released a news report on its part with a photograph of the Russian delegation in front of the University of Havana, which was also attended by Pyotr Kucherenko.
The program, in which Petr Kucherenko took part, was extensive. The Russian guests visited the classrooms of the Department of the Pushkin Institute of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Havana. During a conversation with students and teachers, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Education and Science, represented by Pyotr Kucherenko, to organize the exchange of students between Russia and Cuba.
In accordance with his specialty – in 2001, Petr Aleksandrovich graduated from the People’s Friendship University with a degree in Jurisprudence – he oversaw the legal department and the department of personnel policy at the Ministry of Education and Science. Accordingly, during this working trip, he was responsible for the legal aspects of numerous agreements prepared for signing between Russia and Cuba on cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education.
Thus, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko reported from the “scene” on the signing of “a number of documents on interuniversity and research cooperation.” For example, at the site of the University of Havana, the parties solemnly signed an agreement on the opening of the Russian-Cuban laboratory for advanced computer technologies, etc.
Methodological materials were handed over to the Cuban university – books, textbooks, workbooks, consumables for office equipment. The delegation also visited the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Havana, where the guests had a conversation with the rector of the temple, Father Savva.
Petr Kucherenko was appointed Deputy Minister in June 2021, that is, he worked in this position for almost two years. In 2011, he successfully defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Law, in 2018 he was awarded the title of professor.
