The expert criticized sunbathers in the center of Moscow: "Swimsuit - beachwear"

The Moscow heat is not losing ground – on Sunday, August 6, the temperature in some places rose to +35. The result is predictable: those who could, they fled to the dachas, and those who cannot, they are looking for ways to save themselves in the city. The few metropolitan beaches are overcrowded, in water parks and pools there is a long queue for entry, and the most desperate are ready to sunbathe even on the lawn near their high-rise building. Under the sultry August sun, even basic ideas about decency and modesty can melt away – and a Muscovite (k) is undressing with might and main. As far as this is permissible, “MK” understood.

The heat in Moscow will last at least two more days: according to weather forecasts, on Monday, August 7, +31 degrees awaits us, on Tuesday it will be +28, but on Wednesday it will be possible to exhale – they promise comfortable summer weather like + 23-25 degrees. However, all this is yet to come – but Sunday was hot.

To admire Muscovites sunbathing, it is not necessary to go to the beach somewhere in Serebryany Bor or Meshchersky Ponds – when the heat exceeds +30 degrees, the townspeople calmly go to sunbathe where they have to. Half-naked bodies, covered only with bathing suits, can be seen in parks and squares, on boulevards and even on small lawns in residential areas.

Maybe it’s even more comfortable this way: there are a crowd on the beaches near the reservoirs, there is nowhere for an apple to fall, and in the square closest to the house it seems not crowded. Moreover, it is now forbidden to swim on almost all the beaches of Moscow, so there is no difference: sunbathing there or near the house. The townspeople are also helped out by dry (spouting from the ground, without a bowl) fountains, which have now appeared everywhere. And near such fountains, even in sleeping areas, children and adults in bathing suits are also sure to jump.

Well, the observers are divided into two groups: the first shout “what shamelessness!”, And the second object, they say, it’s better to burn with shame than melt from the heat!

If you walk in the morning through the park of the December Uprising, which is located opposite the building of the MK editorial office, you will almost certainly stumble upon sunbathers. Here you are: on the grass, a lady is freely lying down, wearing only inconspicuous panties (although the lady is lying on her stomach, so at least the appearance of decency is observed). Let’s go a few more meters – we will see a man in swimming trunks, sunbathing on a bench. Even further, a young family spread a blanket on the grass and let a one-year-old child crawl, not burdened with clothes.

Of course, modern ideas about the boundaries of decency are rather sly. Therefore, it is considered obscene in public to undress to panties and a bra – but if to exactly the same set, but from bright synthetics, and delicately called “swimming trunks” and “swimsuit top”, then it is quite normal. Or vice versa: you can’t walk around the city in a bathing suit, but in microshorts in combination with a cropped open top with thin straps, it seems to be acceptable. The same is true for men: lying on the grass in boxer shorts is bad, bad, but in elastic bright swimming trunks or bathing shorts, it seems just right.

As Ekaterina Monakova, a modern etiquette tutor, said in an interview with an MK correspondent, the answer to the question of the admissibility of beachwear in the city rests on the concept of appropriateness, and it is concluded in the word itself.

– In my opinion, everything is obvious here: a swimsuit is beachwear, and beachwear is appropriate only on the beach. Accordingly, sunbathing in a bikini in the center of Moscow is bad manners. Men are also unacceptable to walk around the city with a naked torso. This applies even to coastal cities, not to mention the capital! The heat does not cancel a certain dress code, and it’s not just about visiting the theater, office or government agency. Talking about discomfort is redundant. You can relax in nature in a loose cotton or linen suit or dress, it will never be hot in them. Well, if you want to sunbathe, you have to go to the beach.

The expert also recalled other controversial items of clothing – short shorts and overly open sundresses (especially worn without a bra). According to Monakova, everything again rests on the issue of appropriateness.

– For a walk around the city, such clothes are acceptable, but if you go to a museum or a restaurant, you should remember the rules of good manners. By the way, a good option is to carry a thin silk tippet with you in the heat. It will help to mask the neckline and cover your head from the sun.

However, etiquette is etiquette, and naked people are still found on the streets of Moscow. From the point of view of the law, everything is in order here – paradoxical as it may seem. There is no ban on lying in swimsuits on benches in the center of Moscow. The only thing that can be drawn is the article “Hooliganism” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, containing the words “behavior expressing clear disrespect for society.” Now, if defile in a bathing suit is considered disrespectful to society, then yes! A debatable question: is there disrespect for society in dumping nudity on public display in a place that is absolutely not intended for this?

However, in some places they began to strictly fight against this. In Barcelona, a seaside city, a very clear gradation has emerged in 2023: it is acceptable to be on the beach in swimsuits – period! On the promenade, located 100 meters from the beach, it is no longer acceptable. More precisely, it is punishable – the violator is waiting for a fine. Such a simple principle can easily be extrapolated to any coastal city in Russia – even Svetlogorsk or Zelenogradsk, even Sochi, even Samara (it’s not for nothing that it is considered a resort on the Volga!). However, so far, the punishment for walking around the city in an overly frank form has been introduced only in the Altai Territory, but in other places it remains only to rely on consciousness and an innate sense of appropriateness in people.
