The Duma proposed making it more difficult for one category of Russians to receive maternity capital

The State Duma put forward an initiative to amend the procedure for paying maternity capital for migrants who have become Russian citizens. According to the proposed bill, the right to receive this form of state support is proposed to be granted only 5 years after obtaining Russian citizenship, Izvestia writes.

The author of the initiative is Sergei Mironov, head of the “A Just Russia – For Truth” faction. The politician believes that it is necessary to change the current situation in which maternity capital can be received by parents who do not have Russian citizenship at the time of the birth of their children.

According to the explanatory note to the bill, maternity capital payments are proposed to be made only for children born in Russia. This change, according to the authors, is consistent with current migration challenges and constitutional requirements.

Earlier, Vedomosti reported that the Russian government supported a similar bill from the LDPR, which also proposed eliminating the possibility that a woman who already has foreign children would receive Russian citizenship and apply for maternity capital.

Next year it is planned to index maternity capital by 5.3%. This means that the amount of payment for the birth of the first child will increase to 618.1 thousand rubles, and for the second – to 816.7 thousand rubles.
