Carrying out computed tomography (CT) can become one of the factors in the occurrence of cancer, doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov said in the program “About the Most Important” on the Russia 1 channel.
According to him, according to statistics, up to 2% of cancers are associated with X-ray exposure.
“It may seem that this is not enough, but this is not enough for doctors, and not for those patients who fall into these two percent,” Myasnikov said.
He noted that with one CT procedure, the patient receives a dose of radiation that is equivalent to that which would be received if an x-ray was taken every day for a year.
Myasnikov pointed out that after the completion of treatment for some diseases, patients themselves ask for a CT scan to make sure they are recovering, while the CT scan itself can lead to much more serious problems.
He warned that neither x-rays nor CT scans have any therapeutic effect, and they should not be done without a doctor’s testimony. In a special risk zone from CT are children, the statistics for which is 500 CT scans per case of brain cancer.
“CT is a strict provocateur of oncology. Just remember this,” Myasnikov said.
