Ekaterina Kashukh, a gastroenterologist, candidate of medical sciences and an expert of the Hemotest laboratory, said that drinking beer in the heat is fraught with health problems.
According to her, many often try to quench their thirst with beer, but this is a mistake. The problem is that in the heat the body is faced with dehydration and quickly loses valuable minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium. At the same time, beer, like any other alcohol, only speeds up this process.
Thus, she said, in conditions of dehydration and heat, alcohol intoxication will have more severe symptoms, and the body will recover longer.
In addition, she noted that beer in the heat quenches thirst only for a short time, while negatively affecting the functioning of the liver and cardiovascular system.
“Therefore, people who have liver or heart disease are advised to completely avoid drinking alcohol,” she said, adding that, among other things, beer has a huge amount of calories.
Kazhuh suggested to take a closer look at such drinks as teas, fruit drinks, natural lemonade in the heat. According to her, it is especially important to drink mineral water, which helps to restore the salt balance.
