1,736 people were rescued in the Kherson region after a sabotage at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, RIA Novosti reports citing data from the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
As noted, 165 children go to this number.
In addition, rescuers delivered about 75 tons of food and 30 tons of bottled water to the flood zone.
Currently, the Ministry of Emergency Situations continues to pump out water in the flood zone, 795 specialists and 344 pieces of equipment are used for these works.
On the night of June 6, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) on June 6 launched a series of attacks on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, destroying the upper part of the station. The dam was not damaged, however, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, as a result of which the leadership of the Kherson region was forced to announce the evacuation of the population from the flooded territories. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the destruction of the power plant provoked a large-scale environmental and humanitarian catastrophe. As a result, areas both controlled by Russia and those controlled by the Kiev regime were flooded.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president, said that one of the goals of the bombing was connected with an attempt by Ukraine to deprive Crimea of water. And Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu noted that Kyiv blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, as it weakened its positions in the Kherson direction, transferring troops to the offensive area.
