The court upheld the sentence of ex-Colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Zakharchenko

The Moscow City Court upheld the 16-year sentence to the former head of department “T” of the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Zakharchenko, who was convicted of corruption.
The former police officer was convicted of taking bribes in the amount of 1.4 billion rubles. The court decided to dismiss the appeals of the defence.
In May 2022, the Presnensky Court announced the verdict in the second case of ex-Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko. Former police officer accused of taking a bribe of 1.4 billion rubles, received 15 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of almost half a billion rubles.
At the same time, the former co-owner of the 1520 group of companies, Valery Markelov, who was convicted of corruption in the Zakharchenko case, was released from custody by the Presnensky Court of Moscow until his sentence comes into force. His defense petitioned the court to release the businessman. The person involved in the Zakharchenko case, sentenced to 8 years in a strict regime colony, diagnosed with cancer.
