The founder of New Stream (a private group of companies that includes assets involved in oil production and refining, as well as transportation, export and sale of petroleum products on the foreign and domestic markets, it was the largest oil refiner in Russia independent of the main oil companies. – Note ed.) Dmitry Mazurov was sentenced to 10 years of strict regime for multibillion-dollar thefts. The once ex-businessman is on the list of the richest entrepreneurs according to Forbes magazine. This was reported on Tuesday, December 12, in the Simonovsky Court of Moscow.

“To impose a sentence of 10 years of imprisonment in a maximum security colony,” judge Yulia Okuneva read out the verdict. Another person involved in the criminal case, Alexander Kurilov, was sent to a colony for 8 years. Let us recall that the investigation established that this accused, on Mazurov’s orders, attacked the girl and used a traumatic weapon against another Muscovite. He also set fire to two cars of a family member of a former New Stream security officer. In addition, Kurilov is accused of illegal acquisition and storage of ammunition.

The court also decided to compensate for material damage. Mazurov was ordered to return more than 21 billion rubles to Sberbank, and more than 1.7 billion rubles to the Antipinsky Oil Refinery. Each of the defendants must pay the injured girl 500 thousand rubles. In total, three lawsuits were brought against them. Sberbank demands to recover almost 12 billion rubles and $100 million from the two convicts, the Antipinsky Oil Refinery – 1.7 billion rubles, and from the victim, who, according to investigators, was attacked on Mazurov’s orders – 9 million rubles.

The founder of New Stream is accused of five counts of fraud, theft of someone else’s property and causing grievous bodily harm. The investigation alleges that Mazurov, together with his accomplices, stole money from Sberbank and the Antipinsky Oil Refinery, drawing up documents to obtain non-repayable loans and concluding fictitious lease agreements, construction contracts and the purchase and sale of property with controlled businessmen.

The Antipinsky Refinery was the core asset of New Stream. In May 2019, the group lost all its assets, including this oil refinery. The largest creditor of New Stream was Sberbank. According to the investigation, Dmitry Mazurov took out loans there for the construction of the Antipinsky Oil Refinery and withdrew the funds received to other organizations, and then embezzled them. Another episode concerns the withdrawal of funds belonging to the Antipinsky Oil Refinery in the amount of 473 million rubles using a fictitious contract. In addition, due to the attack in 2015 on model escort Yulia Milshtein, a criminal case was opened against Mazurov for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm. Mazurov himself did not admit his guilt on any charge.
