Dismantling of the monument to the Soviet army began in Sofia

Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported that authorities in the Bulgarian capital Sofia have begun work to dismantle the monument to the Soviet army.
It is noted that a few days earlier, the head of the administration of the Sofia region, Vyara Todeva, issued an order to protect the monument as posing a danger due to its emergency condition. In her order, the governor noted that for 70 years this monument had never been restored, which, according to the results of the study, led to the formation of cracks in the figures. Todeva noted that in order to restore the monument, it must first be dismantled and moved to another location.
On Tuesday morning, police and gendarmerie presence increased around the monument. BNT indicated that a construction crane will be used to dismantle the figures step by step. The construction of scaffolding around the monument is expected to be completed on the same day. The TV channel added that after dismantling, the tallest figures of the monument will be restored, after which they will become part of the exhibition of the Museum of Socialist Art.
