The court of second instance returned the case of the actionist Krisevich for additional investigation

The Moscow City Court in the second instance returned for further investigation to the prosecutor’s office the criminal case of the actionist Pavel Krisevich, who was sentenced in October 2022 to five years in prison for a performance on Red Square.

“The Moscow City Court overturned the verdict of the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow dated October 18, 2022 against P.O. Krisevich. The case has been sent back for a new trial,” he said. “RIA News” in the press service of the Moscow City Court.

According to the media project sota with reference to the correspondent, the side of the state prosecution asked to return the case for additional investigation. According to the prosecutor, when passing the verdict, the court did not take into account the “ideological motive” of Krisevich.

In connection with the additional investigation, Pavel Krisevich will remain in the pre-trial detention center for at least another two months. At a meeting of the Moscow City Court, he asked to cancel the sentence or change the sentence to the time already served in the pre-trial detention center and release him in the courtroom.

In October 2022 Pavel Krisevich sentenced to five years in a colony under the article on “hooliganism” (part 2 of article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In June 2021, an actionist feigned suicide on Red Square by shooting himself in the temple with a blanked R-411 pistol.

Initially, the activist was charged with hooliganism with the use of weapons, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement (Part 2, Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). But the judge excluded the item about a group of people from the charge and took into account that this is the first criminal charge against Pavel Krisevich. According to the actionist, his performance was aimed at “eliminating his own fear” of “political repression” in Russia.

After his arrest in June 2021 and he was in the Moscow pre-trial detention center, after the verdict was passed, he was transferred to the Perm pre-trial detention center for the time of filing an appeal, and then to the Kirov pre-trial detention center. At the end of March, he was placed in the Moscow SIZO-4 “Medved”, and then SIZO-2 “Butyrka”.

In 2020, as part of another performance, Pavel Krisevich tied himself to a cross in front of the FSB building on Lubyanka. After the action, he was arrested for 15 days. Then the leadership of the Peoples’ Friendship University, where Krisevich studied, expelled him.
