Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow arrested President of the interregional Uzbek community “Vatandosh” Usman Baratov. The day before he was detained in a case of extremism initiated after publications on social networks about SVO participants.

A petition for the arrest of Usman Baratov was filed by the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR). According to the Moscow Department of the Investigative Committee, during interrogation Usman Baratov did not admit guilt. “A number of forensic examinations have been appointed in the criminal case, including linguistic and computer-technical examinations,” the statement says.

On January 18, the Investigative Committee opened a case against Usman Baratov, paragraph “c” of Part 2 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity). According to investigators, in December 2023, Usman Baratov published posts on social networks that humiliated citizens of the Russian Federation, including participants in a special military operation.

It is unknown what kind of posts on social networks we are talking about. Earlier, several military correspondents and Telegram channels drew attention to Usman Baratov’s post on the Odnoklassniki social network on December 16, in which he comments on the situation with egg prices in Russia. Attached to the post was a picture of chickens and a caption about roosters, which the military correspondents considered an insult to the SVO members. Under this article, Usman Baratov faces up to six years in prison.

In conversation with RBC Usman Baratov expressed regret that his assistant did not remove from his page within a month “a satirical photo of chickens, which has nothing to do with the alleged insults of SVO participants.” According to Usman Baratov, chickens and roosters are “useful and very good poultry that have nothing to do” with the military operation in Ukraine, and “there are different fronts, for example labor.”
