At a meeting, the church court decided to defrock the former rector of the Trinity Church in Khokhly, Archpriest Alexei Uminsky. The basis for defrocking was the refusal to carry out the blessing of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, when reading a prayer for Holy Rus’. “At the meeting in accordance with Art. 45, paragraph 3 of the Regulations on the Church Court of the Russian Orthodox Church, it is recognized that, on the basis of the Rule of the 25th Holy Apostles, Archpriest Alexy Uminsky is subject to deportation from the priesthood for violating the priestly Oath (oath-breaking) – refusal to fulfill the Patriarchal blessing to read the prayer for Holy Rus’ for Divine Liturgy,” according to the diocese’s website. It is reported that the decision of the church court was sent to the patriarch.
Patriarch Kirill removed Alexei Uminsky from the leadership of the Moscow church and banned him from serving in early January. Decree of the Russian Orthodox Church on removal dated January 3. Instead of Alexei Uminsky, Patriarch Kirill appointed preacher Andrei Tkachev as rector of the Trinity Church in Khokhly.
Alexey Uminsky has been rector of the Church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity in Moscow since 1994. He was a presenter on the Kultura TV channel and the author of several books. In an interview with the YouTube channel “Living Nail” last November, Alexei Uminsky said that “war does not make anyone better.”
