The girl died on the way to the concert

A very young fan of Taylor Swift died on the way to the superstar’s concert in Australia. A 16-year-old Taylor Swift fan was killed in a head-on collision with a semi-trailer while heading to the pop star’s concert in Melbourne.

According to CNN, young Mika Pocarier was driving with her mother to a concert when the SUV they were riding in collided with a semi-trailer shortly before 6 p.m. local time.

According to CNN affiliate 7 News Australia, Mika, who was in the front passenger seat, died at the scene, local police announced. Her 10-year-old sister, who was in the back seat, was left in critical condition at a local hospital, 7 News Australia reported.

The girls’ mother escaped with minor injuries.

Melbourne police said the collision happened about 30 kilometers (18 miles) northeast of Dubbo.

“The driver of the SUV was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Dubbo Hospital with minor injuries,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The rear passenger, a 10-year-old girl, was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition,” police said in a statement.

Taylor Swift is in Melbourne on the Australian leg of her global Era Tour, CNN notes.

The current tragedy follows the November death of a Taylor Swift fan before a concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The death came amid record-breaking heat that prompted Swift to postpone an earlier show.

As CNN recalls, 23-year-old Benevides Machado reportedly collapsed at the stadium and later died.

“This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil,” Swift said in a statement on social media at the time. “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. I won’t be able to talk about it on stage because I’m overwhelmed with grief when I even try to talk about it.”

A GoFundMe page has been created in Australia to support Mika’s relatives. “My family is what I live for. I’m devastated,” her father said, according to 7 News Australia.
