A representative of the emergency services of Nova Kakhovka, in a conversation with TASS, said that there is no zoo in the city, so reports of animal deaths are not true. Earlier, the Ukrainian side reported this.
“The animals did not die because there is no zoo in our city,” an unnamed emergency services official said.
Earlier, the Ukrainian organization for the protection of animals UAnimals said that in Nova Kakhovka, due to flooding after the breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, all animals died, except for swans and ducks, in the Fairy Oak Forest Zoo. This was also reported by the Russian media, citing volunteers. The death of animals was confirmed by the owners of the zoo.
“Fairy Dubrava” is a family recreation complex, which is located in a park area near the banks of the Dnieper. The Facebook group of the mini-zoo located there (owned by the extremist and banned in the Russian Federation Meta) reports that after the start of the Russian military operation, volunteers and two employees who remained in the city provide the zoo and care for the animals. In December 2022, the Crimean media wrote that the animals had been evacuated to the peninsula. Director of the Taigan Lion Park Oleg Zubkov told “Radio Crimea”that nosuha, nutria, parrots and even a crocodile were taken to the republic.
Part of Kakhovskaya HPP collapsed early this morning, June 6th. Water flooded Novaya Kakhovka, Aleshki, and partly Kherson. Authorities are evacuating local residents. 150 tons of engine oil got into the Dnieper. Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of undermining the hydroelectric power station. According to one version, the dam could also collapse due to previous damage.
