The authorities of Bashkortostan have created a working group to protect the rights of rally participants

Under the Human Rights Council (HRC) of Bashkiria, on behalf of the head of the region, Radiy Khabirov, a working group was created to protect the rights of residents of the republic who were involved to liability for participation in unauthorized rallies in Baymak, it is reported in the Telegram channel HRC. The group included lawyers and human rights activists who intend to provide free legal assistance. The head of the working group is the Chairman of the Human Rights Council of Bashkiria Zulfiya Gaisina.

Mrs. Gaisina reported “Kommersant-Ufa”, that the hotline “received a lot of calls from relatives of the detainees, as well as from those who participated in the action, but were not brought to justice.” “The task of the working group is to minimize the consequences provided for by current legislation,” she noted and added that members of the working group conduct on-site receptions.

As Kommersant-Ufa previously reported, On January 17, the Baymaksky District Court sentenced activist Fail Alchinov (listed as extremists and terrorists) to four years in a general regime colony in the case of inciting hatred and humiliating the dignity of a group of people on the basis of race, nationality, language, origin (Part 1 of Article 282 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). During the announcement of the verdict, residents of the republic gathered at the courthouse, and clashes began between them and law enforcement officers. The number of detainees was not officially reported. The Investigative Committee for Bashkiria is investigating a criminal case of mass riots.

The United Press Service of the Courts of Bashkiria later reported that the courts of the republic considered 152 cases of administrative offenses related to the unauthorized rally in Baymak. The materials were compiled under Part 1 of Art. 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (disobedience to a lawful order or demand of a police officer) and under Art. 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (violation of the established procedure for organizing or holding a meeting, rally, demonstration, procession or picketing).
