The contents of a letter from Syrsky’s mother about his father who died while saving his comrades have been revealed

A letter from the mother of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky to his father was available “Izvestia”. Syrsky’s grandfather died during the Great Patriotic War, saving his comrades from the Nazis.

Lyudmila Syrskaya recalls that in pre-war times her father, I.A. Kurkin, worked at the Mospost Office motor depot. Then he joined the Leningrad Front and went missing in 1941.

Only in 1945 did Kurkin’s family learn about his death from a colleague who came to Lyudmila’s mother and told about the circumstances. “We heard a grenade explosion, a few shots and that’s all,” Syrsky’s mother describes his story. “I.A. Kurkin was a communist, he would not have surrendered alive.” “He saved us from the Germans, but he himself died,” the comrade concluded.
