World famous Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa has died in Tokyo. According to the Kyodo agency, he died at his home on Tuesday, February 6.
According to reports, the cause of death was heart failure.
Seiji Ozawa was born on September 1, 1935. He graduated from the Toho Gakuen High School of Music in Tokyo with a degree in piano, but abandoned his career as a pianist after he injured his fingers while playing rugby.
After some time, he graduated from the same school, but as a conductor, and almost immediately was awarded first prize at the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors.
Ozawa studied in the USA, where he continued his career. Led the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (Canada), the Boston Symphony Orchestra (USA). In 2004 he founded the International Music Academy in Switzerland.
