Mayor of the resort city of Gelendzhik Alexei Bogodistov in his Telegram channel said that the city will not have a traditional carnival in honor of the opening of the season.
Mr. Bogodistov explained that he receives many questions about the city’s plans for the opening of the season. “Our position is unambiguous – now we live in such a time that there is no time for wide festivities. There will be no carnival in the format familiar to our guests, with a procession and a gala concert, this year,” the mayor said.
The carnival “The sun smiles at Gelendzhik” is held in the city in early June and marks the opening of the holiday season. The first celebration took place in 1977. On the opening day of the season, a costumed parade was held on the embankment, then performances of artists began at various venues in the city center, and the carnival ended with fireworks. In 2020 and 2021, festive events in Gelendzhik were canceled due to the covid pandemic.
