Two teenagers from Russia and Ukraine took part in the ceremony of the Way of the Cross in Rome

Two teenagers from Russia and Ukraine carried the Crucifix on one of the sections of the Way of the Cross during a ceremony in Rome. They took part in the Via Crucis ceremony. It takes place in the capital of Italy on Good Friday. This year the event was called “Voices of Peace in a World of War”.

The path is divided into 14 stages. Each crucifix was carried by a different group of people. During the procession, the priests read passages from the Gospel and prayerful reflections of the Fathers of the Church. It is not specified what kind of boy from Russia took part in the ceremony. A teenager was called Ukrainian, whose family moved from Mariupol to their grandmother in Italy a year ago.

The Vatican said 20,000 people attended the ceremony this year. The vicar of Rome, Angelo De Donatis, led the procession. Pope Francis was unable to attend the event due to wet, cool weather. He watched from the apartments in the house of St. Martha in the Vatican.
