Teachers offered to leave students for the second year at their own discretion

They do not need parental consent

Allow schools, at their discretion, to keep children for a second year without parental consent—with this call, a group of teachers from Altai came to the Federation Council. They say that according to the law, there is no need to transfer if the child has poor performance in two or more subjects. But the parents are stubborn, they don’t want the child to officially become a minor. Therefore, it is urgent to rewrite the federal norm: leave it for the second year and not ask parents.

Yes, parents may not be particularly excited about their child’s second year. The textbook image of a shaggy second-year student, an antagonist of good children from wall newspapers, stuck in our man’s subconscious. Together with Mitrofanushka: “I don’t want to study, I want to get married,” although not everyone knows Fonvizin. Or, for example, with a mustachioed guy who sits in class with the kids. If this is not Lomonosov at the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, then he is a repeat student.

Even earlier, they liked to blame such lagging students with the whole school and make sand – what kind of family is there, what problems do they have… People didn’t have personal secrets from society back then. But, for example, autism and developmental disabilities were a mystery to the teachers themselves, who did not even suspect that this child may simply not be able to study well.

However, here’s the problem: in modern times, you won’t find a poor student during the day; a poor student is an endangered species. And the second-year student is a completely legendary beast, like an unfrozen mammoth or unicorn. Simply because there shouldn’t be bad grades at school. They are not given marks; two grades spoil the reporting: for the school, district, district and city. And they also harm the ratings of the educational organization and, therefore, the financing of the school. In this regard, it turns out that leaving someone for the second year for management is the same as spitting against the wind.

“What, at your school they allow you to give bad marks??” — people are sometimes sincerely amazed in teachers’ public pages. Such discussions quickly attract hundreds of commentators, complaining in unison about how disgusting it is for “everyone to draw C’s.” And it’s unfair to other honest C students. But you have to do this, otherwise they will deprive you of progressiveness. And so on for all schools in the country, bypassing some rare exceptions.

Jokes aside: talk to experienced teachers and they will tell you. In particular, about the fact that sometimes becoming a repeat student is a real salvation for a child. Cognitive development, like any other thing, is a strange thing. There are children who only come to their senses in high school and begin to study. Others have gaping holes in their program, huge gaps in their knowledge since elementary school. They are formed due to absences: for health, for sports, because parents simply missed out on their child’s studies. This also happens due to stress, due to long-term distance learning, prolonged home schooling, or simply not working at school – in areas bordering troubled territories, this reason is especially relevant. There is also the option of “deviating” children with an unbalanced nervous system: they do not remember the material well, get tired quickly, and need more rest and repetition. There is a variant of the normal central nervous system, with a brain in addition, when the structures mature 2-3 years later than in the same age. Nothing like that, a feature of neurological development…

This can still be explained to parents. But reporting cannot be persuaded.
