Hundreds of Russians, stuck on the Chinese-Russian border for more than a week, began to leave the PRC by bus across the Amur River. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Harbin.
The diplomatic mission clarified that border clearance of Russian citizens is planned at the Chinese mixed checkpoint on Greater Heihe Island.
Russians are first brought by Chinese buses to the Heihe automobile checkpoint, located on the bridge over the Amur. From there, after customs control on the Russian side, they leave in Russian vehicles.
The situation with passenger transportation across the Amur sharply worsened on November 4, after complications in the hydrological situation. Due to the sharp cold snap, ice began to freeze up on the river, and massive ice hummocks appeared in places. This has made it difficult to use the main means of transportation between the two countries, hovercraft. Several ships were out of order. At the same time, gigantic queues appeared at the pedestrian checkpoint.
