Steinmeier warns of more homeless Germans amid rising prices

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier warned of an increase in the number of homeless people in the coming months due to rising food and energy prices. He is quoted on the website of the President of Germany.
Steinmeier stressed that the authorities in the country need to take precautions so that Germans do not lose their homes, as what is happening in Ukraine could lead to the fact that citizens will begin to experience problems with housing shortages.
The President said that now “more than 300 thousand people in Germany live without their own home.” He compared the number of homeless people with the population of the large German city of Münster or Karlsruhe.
Stanmeier also said that nearly 180,000 people live in shelters for the homeless, and another 45,000 homeless citizens constantly sleep on the street.
“More than 300 thousand is too much! And we must be very clear: in the coming months, this number threatens to increase even more,” Stanmeier said.
Earlier, the Federal Police of Germany recorded a rapid increase in the number of illegal migrants arriving in the country.
