The new ruler of Great Britain, Charles III, is officially proclaimed King of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
In Edinburgh, the relevant proclamation was read by the head of the Heraldic Chamber of Scotland in Parliament Square next to St. Egidius Cathedral, where the body of the late Queen Elizabeth II will be exhibited for one day on Monday. After the proclamation of Charles III as the new king, 21 artillery volleys were fired.
At Cardiff Castle, the proclamation was read in both English and Welsh. Also, the announcement of Charles III as king took place at the official Northern Irish royal residence of Hillsborough Castle, after which a salute was also given and the anthem of the kingdom was played.
The king himself is in London on this day, where he is scheduled to meet with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth and the ambassadors of 15 countries in which the British monarch is formally the head of state.
