Acceptance of applications for the issuance of new passports with an electronic data carrier (with a service life of 10 years) has been temporarily suspended from today. Such a message appears in the application “Gosuslugi” when trying to issue a passport. Goznak said that this was due to the “reconfiguration of equipment” for the microcircuits that are used in the manufacture of the document.

“If you have already applied for a new passport through the State Services, wait for a response from the department on the application and act according to the instructions in the response,” the State Services said in a statement. If the application was submitted not through the State Services portal, but, for example, at the MFC, you must contact the migration unit at the place of application.

Goznak said that in recent months there has been an increased demand for passports and, consequently, for microcircuits for them. The company “Mikron” confirmed this information.

“Currently, the manufacturer of these microcircuits, JSC Mikron, is reconfiguring equipment and optimizing technological processes in order to meet the increased demand for the microcircuits under discussion in the future,” she said. press office Goznak. The state company added that after the completion of the reconfiguration, the “rhythm of production and personalization” of passports will be restored within a month.

In “Micron” RBC they said that they were working “in enhanced mode” and reconfiguring the technical process to expand demand and introduce new Russian materials. “More than a hundred thousand chips have already been shipped since the beginning of the year,” they said.

At the end of January, announcements appeared in the departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs that issue foreign passports in different regions of Russia that the Goznak factory had suspended the production of new generation foreign passports. It was recommended to withdraw the application and submit a new one – for the issuance of a passport with a service life of 5 years. The statements noted that the issuance of new-type documents was suspended for an indefinite period.
