In Australia, Elizabeth II on banknotes decided to replace the symbols of the natives

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) announced the decision to change the design of the only local banknote, which depicted the British monarch. Upon completion of the reform on the five-dollar banknote, instead of the portrait of the deceased Elizabeth II, “a picture dedicated to the culture and history of the first Australians” will appear. A sample of this ornament has not yet been presented to the public.

“The bank will consult with the communities of the first Australians (there are Aboriginal people – Ed.) and develop a new design for the 5 Australian dollar banknote. During the development and printing of new banknotes, which may take several years, five dollar bills will be issued in the existing design” , – the financial institution explained to the TASS agency.

Earlier it was reported that there is still no decision to remove the portrait of Elizabeth II, but now the RBA in its message insists that consultations with the Australian government have been completed and the decision to replace it has been agreed.

However, the Australian Central Bank is not yet ready to finally break with the colonial past: representatives of the Windsor dynasty will still remain on the coins for quite a long time. Those depicting the deceased queen will be withdrawn as they wear out, while similar denominations with a portrait of Charles turned into Charles III should be put into circulation in the near future.
