Simonyan: Russian society needs the “fairness” of justice, not humanization

During a speech on the Rossiya 1 channel, the editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and the RT television channel, Margarita Simonyan, expressed her opinion on the need to change the approach to justice.
She noted that the most important thing now is not the humanization of legal proceedings, but its “fairness.” Simonyan emphasized that the existing sentences for a number of criminal articles raise questions, especially in the context of serious crimes such as murder. She gave examples of cases where people who committed murders received shorter sentences than some other people for less serious crimes. Simonyan also noted the disproportionality in punishments compared to the seriousness of the crimes.
“The short sentences for murder are incomprehensibly. Murder is the most terrible crime, one of the most terrible crimes: you took a person’s life – six years,” she noted.
In conclusion, she called for the need to reform legislation in this area.
