A biologist spoke about a flower, for growing which in Russia you can now go to prison. The specialist also explained in a conversation with “Rise” how to protect yourself from unnecessary problems.

Associate Professor of the Department of Doping and Drug Control Expertise at the Russian University of Chemical Technology Evgeniy Abizov noted that it would be difficult for a non-professional to distinguish morning glory, which was included in the list of plants containing narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances, from other species.

The expert called the forbidden flower quite common in Russia, noting that morning glory is often grown in garden plots as an ornamental plant.

“The question is how to distinguish them, because if you pay attention to the leaves, it is very easy for a non-specialist to confuse it with other representatives of Convolvulaceae,” the scientist added.

To avoid accidentally buying and growing a “forbidden plant,” he recommended buying seeds from well-known brands. But it’s not difficult to lime these plants, the publication’s interlocutor reassured.

According to him, for perennial bindweeds, simply removing the rhizomes will be enough, and for annual ones, weeding and digging will be enough.

Earlier, the State Duma warned that it would be a crime to store or receive three grams of seeds or more than 100 morning glory loaches on the site.
